Affordable Homes

About our Affordable Homes

We provide local solutions to the delivery of new housing, of mixed tenure, in the Colchester City.  Our aim is to make the best use of council owned assets to stimulate house building and bring innovation into the construction sector.

We are working to provide a high-quality mix of private homes and affordable rented properties, with sustainable, environmentally-friendly design and specification, in desirable locations.

Increasing the number of affordable homes in the city is a key aspect of this ambition.

We support Colchester City Council in its commitment to build 350 new, council-owned properties in the city to tackle local housing need.  We guarantee at least 30% of any new development we undertake comprises affordable housing.

Military Road, Colchester

Designed by award-winning architect Barefoot & Gilles, we are managing the construction of six one and two-bedroom apartments, alongside two new two-bedroom Mews houses.

All eight affordable units are designed to Future Homes 2025 principles and provide comfortable living, on-site parking and amenity areas.

Hardings Close in Aldham & Buffett Way and Scarfe Way in Colchester

In these locations we are redeveloping three former garage sites into a total of 16 two and three-bedroom homes to boost the city’s much needed social housing stock.

At Hardings Close, Aldham, 15 former garages will make way for two 3-bedroom and two 2-bedroom semi-detached homes with allocated parking for two cars at each property, a garden and a shed with bike storage.

At Buffett Way and Scarfe Way, a block of six 2-bedroom flats will be constructed at each location, each with communal gardens and parking provision.

The programme is being funded through the Council’s Housing Revenue Account. This is a ring-fenced account that can only be spent on improving or increasing affordable housing.
